Have you ever felt like a part of your life is just passing you by? Like you are a participant in your life without having a hold of the reigns? Are you just letting life happen to you?
If you can relate to any of this then quite likely you are in a pit of procrastination, realised on not, it’s a habit you can change! Like anything that requires change the first thing to do is acknowledge it. So, if have a hoard of ideas that are currently unrealised, or you’ve one or two goals you’d like to move forward with you need to dust off your procrastinating habit and build a system that will allow you to realise your ideas.
Here is a list of 8 ways to immediately improve your productivity:
Action – this is fundamental in the principle of shifting yourself out of procrastination mode. You need to stop thinking, stop contemplation & take action! Whilst this is the fundamental principle we need to learn how to act constructively to maximise productivity.
Planning – A good plan is based upon clear, well-defined and easy to understand objectives. If we aren’t clear, if we don’t plan we risk our ideas staying just that and life passing us by. Some quotes that help us paint that picture: 1) “By failing to prepare, you are preparing to fail.” 2) “A goal without a plan is just a wish. 3) “Plan your work and work your plan.”
Focus – We cannot achieve anything to its full extent if we do not have focus. We need to know our intentions, apply our energy and attention towards that which we are trying to achieve. Resist overloading yourself and focus clearly on one or two ideas at a time. It’s a full-time commitment in some instances towards achieving certain goals, so long as those goals are fulfilling you are on the right track!
System – Get a system that works for you! That goes for a system in business and just as importantly a personal system. “To give the best you must be your best.” Find ways to build a system into your daily life as well as having processes throughout your business towards achieving your goals. No matter how big or small, construct a system that will support you towards achieving what it is you want to and keep you motivated on the path towards it all.
Time Management – Know where you spend your time, be conscious and aware of your time and how you are spending it from the moment you wake to the moment you are heading for a restful night’s sleep. It may just amaze you how much time is wasted when we are not consciously applying ourselves, when we are instead stuck in this ‘passers-by’ mode in our own life! “We get out of life what we put it.” Record your time, every hour! Time management is key – set your goals and tasks into your daily / weekly / yearly agenda.
Calendar & To Do List – Make a calendar your best friend and note down everything you want to do in this calendar. Your to do list is your goals. You make time for them and you have it all written down. It’s amazing the difference it can make to extract the ideas from our minds and put them into a form, onto paper (digitally or otherwise!) – this will act as a tracker and keep you out of the thinking mode in the action-based mode.
Less Time on Social Media – An important one to mention these days as often our own use on social media is not managed, we aimlessly scroll, when we stop ourselves in track of that we realise we could be utilising our time more practical. Sure, it’s fine to schedule in time for Social Media for both Business & Personal usage – refer to your Time Management / Calendar and schedule this in consciously. Avoid the Social Media scroll trap as that only promotes procrastination.
Let Go – Part of shifting out of procrastination is realising that your time is precious and how you choose to spend it is not something you are prepared to waste anymore. So, in this you’ll find yourself letting go of that which will no longer serve to maximise time for what will. Enjoy this process, let it be a cleanse and welcome the new-found free time to achieve much more in your life & business.
